Kirkcowan Community Development Trust was established in June 2015 to manage Community Benefit Funds coming in from local Wind Farms (SPR Killgallioch, RES Glenchamber & Velocita Airies).
Kirkcowan Community Development Trust is a 'Company Limited by Guarantee' which means that the Trust is owned by its members but without personal liability in case of financial distress. By forming Kirkcowan Community Development Trust the Community is able to own land, enter into contracts and employ people legally.
The company is governed by members of the Trust who elect Directors to act on behalf of them. The Trust can have up to six Elected Directors who are elected by the Members of the Trust and up to two Appointed Directors who are appointed by Kirkcowan Community Council. There can also be a Co-opted Youth representative aged between 16-25 years chosen and appointed at the AGM.
Aims
The aim of the Trust is to benefit the community of Kirkcowan in line with the following purposes:
- To manage community land and associated assets for the benefit of the Community and the public in general
- To provide, or assist in the providing, recreational facilities and/or organising recreational activities, which will be available to member of the Community and public at large with the object of improving the conditions of life in the Community
- To advance community development, including urban or rural regeneration within the Community
- To advance the education of the Community about its environment culture, heritage and/or history
- To advance environmental protection or improvement including preservation, sustainable development and conservation of the natural environment, the maintenance, improvement or provision of environmental amenities for the Community and/or the preservation of buildings or sites of architectural, historic or other importance to the community
- To promote, establish, operate and/or support other schemes and projects which are in furtherance of charitable purposes for the benefit of the Community
