In 2019 Kirkcowan Community Council applied for funding from KCDT to improve the Dickie Wood Path which is situated right next to the village and used by many people. The path had become muddy and uninspiring to use, which presented challenges to some people using the path on almost a daily basis. To improve this, work was done to the drainage and a new path was created with hardcore on top of the existing path. Some of the gates were also replaced to make the path even more accessible. The drystone wall which runs along the side of the path was also rebuilt to prevent livestock from entering the woods and reduce the need of a fence.
